Casino Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain

A modern harbourfront casino inside Barcelona's World Trade Center, opened for the 1992 Olympic-era transformation of the city's old port.
Casino Barcelona opened in 1988, on the eve of the redevelopment that would remake Barcelona's waterfront ahead of the 1992 Olympic Games, and it occupies part of the World Trade Center building at Port Vell — a curved, modern harbourfront structure that reflects that same era of civic ambition rather than any older gaming tradition. Unlike most of the historic houses in this atlas, its architecture is entirely a product of the late twentieth century: glass, steel, and a layout designed for a large, high-turnover gaming floor.
The setting is nonetheless distinctive: the building sits at the water's edge in the old port, with views over the marina and, beyond it, the wider harbour and the Mediterranean — a maritime backdrop shared with few other entries in this guide. Inside, the gaming floor covers a substantial slot-machine hall, American-games tables for Roulette and Blackjack, a dedicated poker room with a regular tournament calendar, and Punto Banco tables for a quieter crowd.
As Barcelona's principal licensed casino, it draws heavily on the city's huge international tourist base as well as a local Catalan clientele, and its entry procedures reflect Spain's national gambling regulation, including registration checks against the country's self-exclusion database for problem gambling. The scale and pace here are closer to a large modern entertainment venue than to the hushed, chandeliered salons of Monte-Carlo or Baden-Baden.
Combined with Port Vell's marina, the nearby Barceloneta beach, and the old town a short walk away, the casino works well as an evening stop within a much broader Barcelona itinerary rather than a standalone destination.
